A-ha frontman Morten Harket diagnosed with Parkinson's disease
The 65-year-old musician was diagnosed with the disease a year ago and underwent neurosurgery, during which electrodes were implanted deep into the left side of his brain, which alleviated the symptoms of Parkinson's.
Harket said he "had no problem accepting the diagnosis," but only a few people in his inner circle knew about his illness before he went public.
"Part of me wanted to talk about it. As I said, accepting the diagnosis was not a problem for me. What stopped me was my need for peace and quiet to work. I try my best not to let my whole system collapse. It's a difficult balance between taking medication and managing the side effects," said Morten, who turns 66 this year.
The musician has already undergone two brain surgeries, which, according to him, have virtually eliminated many of the physical symptoms of the disease. When asked by a biographer if he could sing and control his voice enough to do so, Morten said: "I don't really know. I don't feel like singing, and for me that's a sign... The question is whether I can express myself with my voice. In the current state of affairs, that's out of the question."
"Don't worry about me... Be good servants of nature, the very basis of our existence, and take care of the environment while you still can. Spend your energy and effort on solving real problems and know that I am cared for," Morten Harket told his fans.
A-ha was formed in 1982 in Oslo by Morten Harket, Pål Waaktaar-Savoy and Magne Furuholmen. One of the band's most famous songs is "Take On Me".
