Actor Gerard Depardieu was found guilty of sexual harassment (2 photos)

The actor was given an 18-month suspended sentence. He did not admit his guilt.





A Paris court found actor Gerard Depardieu guilty of sexual harassment and sentenced him to 18 months of suspended imprisonment. The prosecution had asked for an 18-month prison term, a 20,000 euro fine, compensation for the victims, as well as Depardieu being added to the register of persons who have committed sexual crimes and undergoing therapy with a psychologist.

The actor was arrested in April last year after more than ten women accused him of sexual assault. In the end, the court was able to prove only two episodes - harassment of 54-year-old set designer Amelie and 34-year-old assistant director Sarah. The first stated that in 2021, during the filming of the movie "Green Waves", Depardieu grabbed her with his legs and then began to touch and squeeze her breasts and buttocks, accompanying his manipulations with obscene remarks.

"Come and touch my big umbrella! I'm going to shove it up your p****!" the victim quoted the artist as saying in court.

The second victim told the court that on the set of the same film, Depardieu grabbed her buttocks when she was escorting him from the dressing room.



It is noted that Depardieu was absent from the sentencing, as he is currently in the Azores, where he is filming another movie.

At the trial, the artist's lawyer, Jeremy Assous, petitioned for the full acquittal of his client. He claimed that Depardieu was the victim of a conspiracy organized by feminists and the Paris prosecutor's office to "overthrow the sacred monster of cinema." The lawyer, not particularly caring about his future, called the victims "liars," "corrupt," and "hysterical." As a result, his behavior was considered offensive, but no sanctions have yet followed.

The actor himself did not admit his guilt during the hearings. He stated that he is sometimes rude, but nothing more.
