The smallest hotel in the world that hides from prying eyes (20 photos)
Imagine a nice cozy nest – the perfect place for two to relax, where there is no one else and you can enjoy each other's company without any interruptions. Such a place exists – sandwiched between two ordinary houses.
In the ancient German town of Amberg there is just such a place – the Eh’häusl Hotel, which is officially recognized as the smallest in the world by the Guinness Book of Records.
A House as Wide as a Door
It's only 2.5 meters wide (smaller than some walk-in closets), and the total area is 53 square meters. But despite its tiny size, it has everything you need for a romantic getaway: an entrance hall, a living room with a fireplace, a bedroom, a bathroom, and even a jacuzzi.
A Story with a Trick
But the most interesting thing is why this little house appeared at all. In 1728, local authorities required couples wishing to get married to prove that they had a place to live. One resourceful merchant found a loophole: he built a little house in a narrow 8-foot (2.5 m) alley between two buildings.
This is how Eh’häusl — “Wedding House” — was born. It was resold to future brides and grooms so that they could receive the coveted document. The tradition has long since become a thing of the past, but in 2008 the building was turned into a charming mini-hotel. Realists are skeptical about this story, since each subsequent married couple, in general, had no reason or need to part with even a small, but their own property. But the romantic flair is fueled by the hotel owners and city tour guides, so it is somehow even impolite not to believe in the legend.
Luxury in miniature
Today, it's cozy: wood paneling, soft lighting, vintage details. The price per night is €240, but it's worth it: where else can you spend the night in a historical artifact that once helped lovers circumvent the law (even if it's just a beautiful legend)?
The hotel is suitable for a romantic weekend (no one will disturb you, since there is no room for service personnel inside, only for two guests), lovers of unusual places and those who dream of living in a fairy-tale "gingerbread" house
The main thing is to try not to wave your arms too much - the walls inside are much closer than it seems at first glance.
