An American woman has collected 38,162 spoons and plans to set a record
Cammie Paul gathered about two dozen volunteers who spent more than five hours cataloguing each spoon to prepare evidence for her application to the Guinness Book of World Records. If the record is officially confirmed, it will beat the previous record held by Australian Des Warren, whose collection of 30,000 teaspoons was recorded back in 1990.
“He only has teaspoons. I have teaspoons, salt spoons, mustard spoons, Gilded Age spoons and spoons from all over the world, from different periods in history,” Paul said.
Her collecting history began in childhood, when her great-grandmother gave her 127 spoons after they shared tea.
Cammie says the goal of her gallery is to showcase the beauty of these objects and introduce the public to the art of silversmithing, which is often underestimated.
"People don't think of it as art, but look at the details - they're incredibly subtle," she added.
