The engine took ten years to develop. It was completed when China was switching to electric vehicles everywhere.

At the Shanghai International Auto Show, Great Wall Motor demonstrated a V-shaped 8-cylinder gasoline engine with a volume of 4 liters, which it designed itself. It is worth noting that until now, only Hongqi executive limousines could boast of V8 engines under the hood of domestic brands in China.

According to the Australian publication CarSales, the V8 should become the basis for the automaker's new hybrid power plants, which currently rely on a 3-liter V6.

The engine shown to the public is equipped with a pair of turbochargers with variable geometry in the collapse of the block and is aggregated with a classic automatic transmission, in the body of which an electric motor is built in, and a transfer case for the all-wheel drive system. According to unofficial data, the power of the V8 itself is slightly more than 400 hp with a torque of 600 Nm.

The appearance of a new power plant on fossil fuels in China, which has taken a course on total electrification, should not be surprising. GWM cars with V8, and these are both the flagship SUVs of subsidiary brands Tank and Haval, and the Great Wall pickups themselves, will go to countries with less demanding environmental legislation.
