The sumo wrestling arena is a square platform called a dohyo. It is made of a special type of compacted clay.
First, the base is formed, then it is compacted for a long time, leveled and bordered with straw, and finally sprinkled with sand.
Usually, the construction of a dohyo takes 3-5 days, and up to 15 people participate in the process - the result is a platform raised by 40-60 cm, measuring 6.7 x 6.7 meters.
