In China, regulators have granted two companies permits to commercially operate autonomous passenger drones. This is the first time in the country's history that something like this has happened.
The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has issued the first two licenses for flying taxis, to EHang Holdings and Hefei Hey Airlines. The certificate for commercial operation of autonomous passenger drones was the last regulatory hurdle. Before that, the companies received production and airworthiness certificates
Now, the two companies have all the necessary documents to launch taxis into the air - it's just a matter of implementation.
China expects the first transportation to begin in 2025, and the market to reach an estimate of 300 billion dollars by 2026.
