The main feature of fast food establishments was the pretty waitresses. Following the course of inclusivity, the chain began to renew its staff: among the slender athletic girls in tight clothes, body-positive fatties and transvestites appeared.





Another American company learned from its own experience that tolerance in business is a threat, not a help.



In 2020, the Hooters staff changed noticeably: instead of cute candy girls, there were clearly unfamiliar sports ladies and persons of indeterminate gender.

And then something went wrong. More precisely, everything went wrong. The company's turnover began to fall, and recently there was news that the Hooters chain, which unites more than 400 establishments where waitresses serve customers in a half-naked and sexualized manner, is preparing a bankruptcy petition.

The company has already had to close several branches due to financial difficulties, Bloomberg reports. And although the restaurant business has long been in decline, Hooters is also systematically under pressure from feminists who do not like the emphasized sexualization of the female image.



Head of policy at feminist charity FiliA, Kruti Walsh, has called for the licensing of places like Hooters to be stopped. Walsh believes that encouraging such businesses sends a clear message "that it is OK to exploit and objectify women".

Newcastle restaurant manager Jonny Goard disagrees, saying Hooters provides "a great opportunity for students to get their first job in a very professional, well-trained environment".



But under public pressure, management was forced to open several "Hoots Wings by Hooters" locations, aimed at family vacations. Visitors were served in them by waiters dressed in regular clothes, and not what the restaurant's customers were used to. Recently, it became known that one of these restaurants in Chicago was forced to close.

Now the chain is planning a restructuring due to falling attendance and the closure of several branches. Although, perhaps all that needs to be done is to simply bring back the pretty waitresses and fire transgender people and those whose appearance does not fit the concept of the establishment.

The first Hooters restaurant opened in October 1983 in Clearwater, Florida, and since then the chain has opened in 29 countries, including the Czech Republic, China, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Singapore and South Africa.
