Scientists decided to check what is under the ice of Antarctica
Researcher Austin Carter spent 75 days at the pole studying the oldest ice sheets on the planet. In his video, he shows a 93-meter-deep borehole.
Carter, working with the Center for Old Ice Exploration (COLDEX), spent 75 days in Antarctica studying the oldest ice sheets on the planet. In his video, he shows a 93-meter-deep borehole drilled in the Allan Hills area, where the oldest ice on Earth was found. The goal of the study is to uncover the secrets of our planet's climate history.
After lowering a camera into an ice tunnel, scientists captured mesmerizing footage that creates the illusion of traveling through a gravitational wormhole. At the end of the descent, the camera reached a layer of snow covering the rock.
The video caused a stir on social media. One user jokingly noted: "I can only imagine how much a glass of whiskey on ice costs that is 2.7 million years old." Others admitted that the footage left them feeling uneasy.
