A man rescued a herring shark that washed up on a beach in Chile. The daredevil pulled the fish into the water with his bare hands.
The incident occurred on the beach in the city of Viña del Mar on February 14. The footage shows a one-and-a-half-meter shark that swam into shallow water and darted around near the shore. Beachgoers surrounded the predatory fish and began filming it on their mobile phones. Eventually, a man was found who grabbed the shark by the tail, pulled it deeper into the water and released it.
According to the website What's the Jam, porbeagles can grow up to 3.7 meters and weigh almost 600 kilograms. Biologist Nicolas Perez Salgado said in an interview that the shark was most likely chasing prey, got too close to the shore, and was washed up in shallow water by waves.
Experts from the National Fisheries Service of Chile said that vacationers should not come into contact with the washed-up marine animals, as "their behavior can be unpredictable."
