Lamborghini secretly sold a unique concept Egoista for 117 million dollars (11 photos)
In 2014, Lamborghini placed the Egoista supercar in perpetual storage in the factory museum in Sant'Agata Bolognese and promised never to part with it. And now this "never" has come. The concept disappeared from the museum. The company, allegedly, could not resist the offer made by one of the largest collectors.
The Egoista concept was developed under the supervision of the brand's chief designer Walter da Silva in 2013. Serial production of such a model was never planned: the extravagant supercar became a gift to the company for its own 50th anniversary. As far as we know, the development team was allowed to give free rein to their imagination, and as a result, a single-seat coupe in the style of jet fighters was born.
The body contours with three characteristic "pylons" in the front part, lighting, anti-radar coating of the panels and the configuration of the cockpit should work to resemble aircraft equipment. The "salon" of the Egoista is one seat in the center, covered with a folding cap, while to get inside, the steering wheel itself must be removed.
Despite the external exoticism, the platform of the Egoista is quite serial. The concept is based on the "trolley" of the Lamborghini Gallardo and is equipped with a standard for those times 5.2-liter V10. The engine develops about 600 hp.
If insiders are right in estimating the deal at $117 million, the Egoista has become one of the most expensive cars on the planet, but not a record holder. That honorary title has belonged to a Mercedes-Benz sports car from the 1950s since 2022. One of only two 300 SLR Uhlenhauts ever assembled was also kept in the factory museum, but three years ago the company parted with it as a result of a closed auction, receiving 135 million euros in return.
