Polish military accidentally sent anti-tank mines to an IKEA warehouse (4 photos)

There is an IKEA warehouse in the Polish village of Orla. Until recently, its work was routine and predictable. However, in July last year, a shipment arrived at the warehouse, among which 240 anti-tank mines were found, Reuters reports, citing a representative of the district prosecutor's office in Poznan.



It turned out that from July 4 to July 7, wagons with shells and other ammunition were arriving at the military warehouse in Most. All this stuff was supposed to be unloaded, but as it turned out, the military was in too much of a hurry to avoid penalties for downtime and did not empty the wagons completely. More than 200 TM-62M mines with a total weight of about two tons were forgotten, and then they were mistakenly sent along with other, already completely civilian cargo, to the IKEA warehouse. There, this dangerous "investment" was discovered on July 16 by employees of the Swedish company.

IKEA managers truly have nerves of titanium: they calmly called the military and asked when they would pick up their order of mines. Interestingly, by that time the military had already managed to forge delivery documents in order to avoid being held responsible for the missing ammunition.





IKEA Industry Poland CEO Małgorzata Dobies-Turulska clarified that the mines were found in one of the train cars.



The military prosecutor's office found out who was handling the ammunition, after which four Polish soldiers were charged with negligence in the performance of their official duties. The soldiers themselves completely deny their guilt. However, now they face up to five years in prison.
