A pilot met his bone marrow donor on board a plane (2 photos + 1 video)
Alexandria Reimold was flying home from visiting her mother in Houston when she was surprised to hear her name and the story of how a man had received a bone marrow transplant after being diagnosed with myeloid leukemia. Later, the captain, who had made the announcement, came out into the passenger cabin and greeted Alexandria.
As they embraced, the pilot told the passengers that he had learned before takeoff that his donor was on board. “This is the girl who saved my life,” he said.
The man was diagnosed with leukemia in August 2016. At that time, doctors said that he could only survive with a bone marrow transplant. Fortunately, a donor was found quickly. The necessary material belonged to a 22-year-old girl from Purdue University, Alexandria Reimold.
The pilot warmly greeted his savior, and other passengers supported the captain with applause. A touching video of their meeting appeared online.
It is known that this is not the first meeting between Winston and Reimold. Earlier in 2018, after a successful transplant, they first contacted when they received an email from the donor organization Be the Match. Shortly after the correspondence, David and Alexandria met in person at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas for a donor-recipient reunion. They spent a lot of time talking and hugging.
