An Exact Replica of the Iconic Jaguar XKSS Racing Car Was Stolen from a Restoration Workshop (6 photos)
The Jaguar XKSS was built on an E-Type chassis and is a recreation of the iconic Jaguar D-Type racing car that won Le Mans in the 1950s. Over the weekend, the unique XKSS replica was stolen, and now the shop is asking for help in finding it.
Team CJ Works, a restoration shop based in Austin, Texas, is known for restoring and creating rare cars that can rightfully be called masterpieces. Among them are the Jaguar E-Type, the Mercedes-Benz 300SL with gullwing doors, and the Lamborghini Miura.
However, their Jaguar XKSS replica takes a special place. This car is built on the E-Type platform and recreates the image of the iconic Jaguar D-Type racing car, which won Le Mans in the 1950s.
The restoration shop posted a request for help in finding it, but unfortunately, the comments under the post were filled with scammers, which complicated the search process.
At the moment, the circumstances of the theft remain unclear. It is also not yet known who committed this crime. The Austin Police Department is investigating, but it is unlikely that the car will be seen on the road - its appearance is too distinctive.
The original XKSS was a road version of the Jaguar D-Type racing car. The car received a tubular frame and a magnesium alloy body. It was powered by a 3.4-liter six-cylinder engine producing 262 horsepower.
In 2016, Jaguar Classic created a faithful reproduction of the XKSS, which is now housed at the Petersen Museum in Los Angeles.
The replica, created by the CJ Works team, features a lightweight alloy body and a 4.7-liter engine producing 390 horsepower. The suspension and transmission are from a Jaguar E-Type. The car is painted in a rich Opalescent Dark Green color, and its interior is finished in sage-colored leather.
