The half marathon has attracted a lot of attention and participation due to its unusual prizes.
A half marathon in northeastern China has attracted widespread attention after it was announced that the winner would receive a cow as a prize, as well as other rewards such as wild fish, chickens and ducks.
"These unconventional prizes have generated considerable interest, with many expressing enthusiasm for participating in the event," the article said.
The competition was held on December 3 in Nong'an County, Changchun, Jilin Province, and featured two categories: a half marathon and a 5-kilometer health race.
According to the competition rules, the top 50 finishers in the half marathon received a combination of cash and other prizes. The champion received a cow, while the first and second place winners received valuable wild fish.
The 4th to 20th place winners received a goose or a rooster, while those finishing after 30th place took home 10 kg of rice or whole grain flour.
"Indeed, the top prize this year is a cow. Last year, we offered wild fish as the top prize, and the runners-up received chickens and ducks. To make this year more special, the champion can take home the cow or exchange it for 6,000 yuan (US$820) in cash," the event organizers said.
They also explained that the prizes were chosen to reflect local agricultural products, adding a regional flavor to the event and enhancing its appeal.
"The enthusiasm for registration was impressive, with many participants expressing interest in these unique prizes," the organizer added.
These unique prizes have attracted considerable attention among Chinese netizens, many of whom praised them as "creative."
