Deputy sheriff resigned because of her porn career (5 photos + 1 video)
Shannon Lofland worked for the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department in Colorado for 21 years. However, she decided to resign on Tuesday after her involvement in the porn industry was revealed.
Lofland, 44, a driving instructor at the sheriff's office, was struggling financially. In an attempt to provide for her family, she took on a part-time job streaming 18+ videos.
"I was desperate, I was drowning. But I found a way to provide for my family, keep my home, and feed my family legally and profitably," Lofland told CBS News.
Now that her secret has been exposed and she has been suspended from work, Lofland is admitting her guilt to her superiors.
"I understand that adult streaming is not something the sheriff's office would approve of. By not getting permission to work part-time, I broke the rules. I knew I shouldn't do that."
However, the woman is not left without the support of her husband and social media.
"She shouldn't resign for making money legally on adult sites," one user wrote.
A second user praised her: "Smart girl! Nothing to be ashamed of. Congratulations on your new career. Keep it up!"
"People shouldn't meddle in other people's lives. She was trying to provide for her family and protect them from homelessness," a third user concluded.
The woman began her career in adult films due to mounting debts. Last year, her home was severely damaged by a hurricane. The repairs cost almost half a million dollars.
After a month of streaming and doing about six shoots for several companies, Lofland paid off her loan.
"I found my niche in law enforcement. I was loyal and dedicated. I really enjoyed what I did. A lot of deputies and officers are doing whatever they can to make money, with or without permission. People are trying to survive in this day and age," she said.
The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office declined to comment.
"Because this is an open investigation, we can't talk about it until it's concluded," a spokesperson said.
