A policeman shot and killed a man who served 16 years on false charges (4 photos + 1 video)

The incident occurred when a sheriff's deputy pulled over a vehicle. The man was driving at a speed of at least 145 kilometers per hour in an area where the speed limit is 113 kilometers per hour.





A court in 2003 sentenced 53-year-old Leonard Cure to life in prison for armed robbery. However, three and a half years ago, he recognized Cure's conviction as false because investigators did not have enough evidence of his guilt and did not take into account his alibi. An innocent American who served 16 years in prison was released in the courtroom.



On the morning of Monday, October 16, Cure was driving along Interstate 95 toward Camden County to visit his mother. On one section of the road, he reached a speed of 145 kilometers per hour with a limit of 110 kilometers per hour. Shortly thereafter, a patrolman stopped him at a traffic light and asked him to get out of the car.



Cure complied with the officer, but began to react sharply when he informed him that he intended to arrest him. The man resisted an attempt to handcuff him. The patrolman used a Taser and a baton, but, according to him, this did not stop Cure, so the officer pulled out a gun and shot him.

After this, the policeman called an ambulance. Paramedics quickly arrived on the scene and provided first aid to the victim, but were unable to save his life. Cure died shortly after being hospitalized. The details of what happened are currently being clarified. An internal investigation was launched to determine whether racism may have been a factor in Cure's detention and arrest.



Lawyers from the Innocence Project of Florida, who helped overturn the man's conviction, have released a statement regarding the tragic incident. In it, they expressed their regrets and condolences to Cure's family.
