Attacked an employee and smashed the meat department: in Japan, a bear broke into a supermarket (2 photos + 1 video)
Journalists report that bear attacks on human settlements have increased in Japan due to climate change.
An enraged bear attacked a supermarket in the city of Akita in northern Japan and injured a 47-year-old worker. The man received a minor head injury, and the animal was caught only two days later.
Journalists note that over the course of two days, the one-meter-long bear looted the meat department and damaged several shelves. After the attack, it remained in the store, so authorities had to send a drone inside to locate the animal.
The bear was found in a warehouse. To catch it, workers had to set a trap with honey and apples. The animal was later euthanized.
A prefectural official said the number of bear attacks was a record last year. There have been many more this year. It is becoming a growing problem in Japan, especially in the north, where mountain ranges and lush bushes make ideal habitats for them.
Some experts believe that climate change is affecting flowering and pollination schedules for plants. This disrupts the bears' diet and forces them to travel to cities in search of food.
