Dispatcher Kim Krause explained to the boy that 911 was for emergencies, not schoolwork. Still, she was sympathetic and decided to try to help.

According to the Shawano County Sheriff's Office, the child called because his family was having trouble figuring out a math problem.

"He explained that his family 'weren't very good at math' and he needed help right away," the social media post read.

Dispatcher Kim Krause, who took the call, explained to the boy that 911 was for emergencies, not schoolwork. However, she was sympathetic and decided to try to help.

"She said, 'Can I help you with this?' But when the kid asked a complicated question with decimals, she admitted she couldn't do it and decided to find a nearby deputy," Sheriff George Lenzner said.

Deputy Chase Mason was nearby and agreed to help.

"I'm not very good at math, but I had to respond," he said.

Mason met with the boy, understood the problem, and was able to help him solve it. He then left the boy a business card, advising him to use the non-emergency line in the future if the situation was not life-threatening.

"This case reminds us that we are always ready to help, but the emergency lines must be kept open for real emergencies," the sheriff's office said.
