A very rare 1970 Ford Mustang Twister Special with a 7-liter engine will be put up for auction (22 photos)
Tomorrow, the Mecum auction will begin bidding on a 1970 Ford Mustang Twister Special. According to available data, 96 of these cars were built. And only half of them have a Super Cobra Jet V8 engine under the hood.
The Twister Special cars were originally built for American Raceways International. But when almost a hundred cars were ready, the organization went bankrupt. They came up with the idea of selling them through Ford dealers in Kansas City as an exclusive limited series.
All cars are painted bright orange with black stripes and a black interior. Externally, they were distinguished by special wheel rims, a radiator grille, and fog lights. The interior was decorated with bucket seats and a large number of wooden inserts.
An air intake appeared on the hood. The package included power steering, power brakes, and front disc brakes. The Mustang Twister Special was equipped with a sports suspension and a limited-slip differential.
The example put up for sale is one of the few that has survived in its original condition. Under the hood is a seven-liter "eight" with a capacity of 335 hp, which is combined with an automatic transmission. The drive, of course, is rear.
