3.2 million euros were paid for a rare extreme speedster Mercedes SLR McLaren Stirling Moss (18 photos)
A collector paid 3.22 million euros for the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moss speedster, although the auctioneers expected to sell the car for a maximum of 2.5 million.
The Stirling Moss version appeared at the end of the biography of the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren and is considered the most extreme road modification of the famous supercar. The car is completely devoid of a roof and windshield, which was replaced with two small deflectors - it is proposed to drive the supercar in a helmet. Aerodynamic "humps" appeared behind the headrests of the seats. In the absence of a passenger, his seat can be covered with a special panel that improves streamlining. The new body made the speedster 200 kg lighter than the regular coupe.
The Stirling Moss was equipped with the most powerful version of the standard 5.4-liter V8, which developed 650 horsepower. The shock absorber and steering settings were also revised. According to various estimates, the speedster took from 3 to 3.5 seconds to accelerate to 100 km/h, with a maximum speed of over 350 km/h.
The SLR McLaren Stirling Moss is dedicated to Sir Stirling Moss, the famous Mercedes-Benz racing driver, and is intended to resemble the racing 300 SLR, in which he won the 1955 Mille Miglia. This is the last of the factory modifications of the SLR as part of the partnership between Mercedes-Benz and McLaren.
The speedster was produced only from June to December 2009. Only 75 cars were assembled, and the final example was auctioned off. Among other differences that directly affect the price is the unique combination of colors in the body and interior trim, where the rare bright red for SLR is combined with a silver tint and gold inserts. In addition, this SLR Stirling Moss is called one of the best-preserved representatives of the model family, a real time capsule, since its official mileage is only 50 kilometers.
