A drawing by a 12-year-old girl inspired local authorities to build a new playground (4 photos)
The girl herself approached the city hall with a request to build a playground based on her drawing.
Last year, Rosalie Olsen used crayons to draw a playground that she thought would be safer for her younger sisters. The one near her home, according to the girl, was too “difficult” for younger children.
The girl’s mother, Annie Olsen, said she decided to support her daughter’s idea and organized a meeting for her at the Clearfield City Hall.
“All I did was call [city hall] and say, ‘Hey, do me a favor. Can you let my daughter come in?’” Annie recalls.
Rosilie eventually showed her design to local officials — and they did indeed decide to use her design. “After seeing her design and her attention to detail, we knew we had to make her dream come true,” city officials said.
A year later, the girl attended the grand opening of the playground designed based on her sketch. Her mother and sisters were there to help cut the ribbon.
Rosili herself said that this event means a lot to her. “When I get older, I’ll be able to tell my boyfriends about it,” the girl added.
