A pygmy hippopotamus has already brought its zoo more than 12 million baht in three weeks (4 photos + 2 videos)
The baby pygmy hippopotamus was born in July at Khao Kheow Zoo in Si Racha. The little female was named Mu-Daeng, which means "shaking pig." It soon became clear that Mu-Daeng is a very expressive animal with a playful character. 
Zookeeper Attapol Nandi, who looks after Mu-Daeng and other hippos, has been regularly sharing photos and videos of her on social media.
The animal has become extremely popular and, according to the staff, thanks to it alone, the zoo earned 12 million baht from September 1 to 19. The administration expects to earn up to 200 million baht by the end of the financial year. “We believe that the excitement around Mu Daeng will attract a large influx of foreign tourists, especially from other Asian countries such as China, Japan and South Korea,” said the director of the zoo, Narongwit Chodchoy.
The nursery has already launched a 24-hour broadcast from the enclosures of the little hippopotamus and other animals on the Internet. On the evening of September 20, a record 44,000 people were watching her at the same time. People line up in long queues to see Mu-Deng. The zoo administration had to limit the time of visiting her enclosure to five minutes for each visitor. If they want to see the animal longer, they will have to wait their turn again.
Moreover, the popular hippo has already received its first invitation from overseas. The organizers of the Miami Grand Prix in Formula 1 racing have invited Mu-Deng to attend the competition in 2025.
