50-year-old designer and artist Wayne Dawber from Crewe, Cheshire, UK, has won the Unexpected/Unique category at the annual Shed of the Year competition. The winners were determined by an open vote among the general public.

Dawber called his artistic shed "Wrinkled, Rusty and Retro". The structure is made from recycled materials, including corrugated steel, and features vintage signs and murals. It took two weeks to build, with another six weeks to create the murals, which Mr Wain describes as his favourite part of the building.



After winning, the designer thanked his friends and family for their support, "despite their biases", as well as founder and head judge Andrew Wilcox and Cuprinol creative director Marianne Shillingford.

"This is a very special occasion for us. As we approach the 20th anniversary of the competition, we are amazed at the incredible achievements our participants achieve each year. In the midst of the pandemic and immediately after, there has been a resurgence of barns. It is all thanks to the ingenuity of people who are creating their own outdoor workspaces. This year we have seen a lot of bold designs built using recycled materials," said Wilcox, who has been running the competition for 18 years.





Wayne Dawber will receive £1,000 cash, £250 worth of Cuprinol products and a camping holiday as part of his prize.
