She lived in a lake for 20 years: the world's largest goldfish weighing more than 30 kg was found (2 photos)
The record holder was first mentioned in 2022, when fisherman Andy Hackett caught it after a grueling 25-minute struggle.
The world's largest goldfish, which was jokingly called "Carrot", was found dead in Champagne (France). It is believed that it lived in the pond for about 20 years and died of old age.
The record holder first made headlines in 2022, when it was caught by 42-year-old Andy Hackett after a grueling 25-minute struggle. The huge fish, weighing 67 pounds 4 ounces (more than 30 kilograms), attracted the attention of many journalists from around the world.
"We launched Carrot 20 years ago to surprise our customers. Over time, she has gained fans and fame. She is truly a unique specimen. We are happy that she lived in our lake. The news of her death broke our hearts," said a representative of Bluewater Lakes in Champagne.
The goldfish was buried near the lake, and a memorial plaque was installed in her honor.
"She died shortly after spawning, which is a very stressful period for carp. The risk of not surviving is always extremely high," explains British angler Gary Tardy.
According to him, Carrot left behind two offspring, one of which already weighs 40 pounds (about 18 kg). Hundreds of comments and memories have been posted on social media.
"Absolutely devastating news, caught her a few weeks ago. Such a tragic loss. So glad she left offspring";
"Such a cool carp and probably the most recognisable fish in the world";
"I had the pleasure of holding it in my hands, but unfortunately I never caught it with my own hands."
