Chasing mice is a thing of the past for the English cat Poppy, and her fur is no longer as fluffy as it used to be, which is why she received the title of “the oldest cat in the world.” Most recently, Poppy turned 24 years old, and she immediately entered the famous Guinness Book of Records.
She inherited the title from her cat Pinky from Kansas, who died last year at the age of 23. The British edition of The Daily Mail calculated that in terms of “human” age, the four-legged record holder is now 114 years old!
Poppy, born in February 1990, has already outlived five British Prime Ministers. She now lives with Jacqui West, who took 10-year-old Poppy from her parents' home when she married Andy West. Since then she has lived with them.
— Now, besides Popper, four more cats, two rabbits and a hamster live in our house. They all get along well with each other and all treat Poppy with respect, but how could it be otherwise - she is the oldest among them, says the 43-year-old English woman.
“During her “reign,” my husband Andy and I had two sons: 11-year-old Joe and 8-year-old Toby, for whom Poppy is not just a cat, but a true friend,” the woman notes. – People often ask me about the secret of our pet’s longevity. “I think she just has the right diet and an active life full of adventures.”
“Poppy loves to go for walks and often leaves the yard, and when she returns, a delicious lunch of her favorite canned food and cat biscuits awaits her,” answers Jackie West. “And the most important thing is that she was never overweight.
- Now Poppy is already quite old and, despite the fact that she sees and hears poorly, she is still very active, she can rarely be seen sitting / lying in one place. Even at such an advanced age, she can stand up for herself and fight back against the offender. However, over the past year her health has noticeably deteriorated.
“We understand that her days are numbered,” says the woman, adding that she has had to say goodbye to her more than once, but Poppy always proves the truth known to everyone that cats always have nine lives left.
