A wild fight broke out on the field during a women's football match (4 photos + 1 video)
Sunday's women's soccer game between Rutgers University (N.J.) and the University of Massachusetts briefly descended into chaos when two players began fighting.
A wild brawl broke out out of nowhere during Sunday's women's soccer game between Rutgers and UMass, leaving both sides injured.
In the 55th minute of the game, Rutgers senior Gia Girman committed a hard foul on an opponent. UMass apparently wanted to quickly convert a free kick to catch Rutgers off guard, and player Ashley Lamond stepped up to the ball, which was still at Girman's feet.
Girman didn't move right away, and the situation quickly escalated. Suddenly, Girman took a hit, and two players fell to the ground. Other players ran to separate them. In the end, both Girman6 and Lamond were shown red cards, leaving both teams without 10 players for the rest of the match.
Full-scale football brawls are rare, at least unless they involve overly passionate fans. It looks like this was serious.
Either way, the UMass team left the field happier with a 1-0 win.
