SAIC-owned IM Motors continues to demonstrate the capabilities of the fully-controlled digital chassis that underpins the IM L6 electric liftback, which was unveiled in 2024.
A video of the experimental modification of the model, published recently, demonstrates the ability to facilitate the parallel parking procedure for novice drivers or in tight spaces. To do this, the car was taught to drive sideways into the designated space by synchronized rotation of the front and rear wheels in opposite directions. It looks impressive, although not yet autonomous: the electronics were assisted by a person sitting inside, the show began only after he turned the steering wheel.
It should be noted that IM Motors is far from the only company experimenting with such solutions. For example, Hyundai Mobis has been working on e-Corner modules for several years now, which replace the suspension and braking system of a car and allow maneuvering in very narrow spaces.
