A parachutist crashed into the ground at a speed of 110 km/h and miraculously survived (5 photos)

Kirk Trainor, 31, a project manager, was left paralysed from the waist down after a horrific parachute jump. Two months after the horrific fall, the Briton is still in hospital.





The experienced skydiver, who has almost 700 jumps under his belt, broke eight ribs and his spine, resulting in damage to his spinal cord. Now the Middlesbrough resident requires a wheelchair to get around. His friends, Mike Needham and Scott Middleton, have started a fundraiser. The money will also go towards an experimental stem cell treatment, which has already raised more than £20,000.



Kirk said: "I have multiple injuries including eight broken ribs and a fractured spine. The worst part is the spinal cord injury which has left me paralysed and with no feeling below my belly button."

"Stem cell treatment could help me recover and regain mobility. Such advanced treatments are only available in the private sector and require a huge financial investment. The cost of treatment and rehabilitation runs into the hundreds of thousands."





When he landed, the man failed to brake and crashed into the ground.

"I landed feet first, and the full force of the impact was on the lower part of my spine, just above the small of my back."

"It was like being in a motorcycle accident, but I was lucky to be alive. It could have been worse - people have died in similar situations."



"I want to help Kirk over the next few months while he continues his treatment. We need to raise money for a lightweight wheelchair, which costs around £6,000. If we raise more, the extra money will go towards stem cell treatment, which costs around £100,000. As a friend of Kirk, I am appealing to my family, friends, colleagues and the wider community to help raise the funds needed to help him recover," Mike Needham wrote on social media.
