They wiggle their hips and do the splits: social networks are amused by disco football with dancing
The inventors of the sport "disco football" combined dancing, figure skating and football, journalists said. Spectators liked dancing on the field and would like to see it during the Olympic competitions.
Players of the new sport, which they called "disco football", spend more time on the field dancing than running with the ball. The football match is accompanied by fiery music, while the athletes show various steps to keep the ball or score a goal. Coaches control their charges, showing the appropriate signals with their hips or waving their arms.
The Mirror article talks about a number of videos from unusual football matches that have appeared online. In the video, you can see two teams dressed as expected - in sports uniforms. When the referee's whistle sounds, the music turns on and the athletes begin to play and, at the same time, dance. The referees and coaches dance along with the players. Spectators in the stands also move rhythmically, and viewers on the Internet either criticize or rejoice at the new impressions, journalists wrote.
One of the videos posted on the X social network (Twitter) shows a team in blue and red uniforms playing "disco football". At some point, a "free kick" is about to be taken. While the player in blue uniform is approaching the ball, dancing, the opponents in red are dancing something similar to the "dance of the little swans" from the ballet. Finally, the ball flies into the net. Then the "blues" demonstrate a victorious dance with their hips, and the "reds" get on all fours and "sadly" crawl across the field.
The commentators under the video were unanimous. Most liked the funny football. One user wrote that the players are "more courageous than in traditional football". Others - that this is the best entertainment in "dark times" and they would like to see something like this at the Olympics.
Journalists also found similar videos on TikTok. They clearly show the coaches dancing near the field. In addition, the players do the splits. Commentators point out that the events are taking place in Paris, praise the "footwork" and would like to see a penalty. However, there are critical remarks. One of the users noted that he would like to "go back to the good old days", and another - "definitely, the world needs saving".
Discofoot ("disco football") is a really new sport, which is written about on the French website La Voyage a Nantes. The site provides the basic rules. The first rule is that running is prohibited, only dancing is allowed. The second rule is that points are awarded not for goals, but according to figure skating criteria (for example, difficulty, choreography, expressiveness).
