In Italy, a robot was developed to clean up cigarette butts on the beaches
The Italian Dynamic Legged Systems Lab has developed the VERO robot (Vacuum-cleaner Equipped Rоbot), which is designed for cleaning beaches. It is capable of collecting cigarette butts and maneuvering on uneven surfaces.
As the developers note, cigarette butts have become the second most common type of garbage on Earth. According to researchers, more than 4 trillion cigarette butts are thrown out outside special zones every year. At the same time, they contain more than 700 different chemicals that can harm the ecosystem.
