Chinese robot breaks the world record for walking speed (7 photos + 1 video)
The Chinese company Unitree has introduced a new version of its humanoid robot. He recently set a world record for the fastest walking speed of any humanoid. The company also showed a demo video with a unique robot.
Chinese robotics company Unitree has demonstrated the impressive capabilities of its latest robot, the H1 Evolution V3.0. He can jump, dance, do pull-ups, climb stairs and run, demonstrating amazing mobility and balance. The robot's height is 179 cm and its weight is 47 kg. He runs at a speed of almost 12 km/h, and can walk at a speed of 5 m/s. This is a world record compared to other humanoids.
It won't compete in the Olympics, of course, but it's still incredibly fast for a two-legged robot. Even the famous Atlas humanoid robot from Boston Dynamic, which is famous for its parkour and backflips, reaches a speed of only 2.5 m/s. Only the Cassie robot from Agility Robotic can compete with the H1: it has a maximum walking speed of 4 m/s. But since Cassie is only a pair of legs, it is not considered a full-sized humanoid.
The secret to the robot's speed is the powerful torque generated by its hip and knee joints. His joints have actuators that generate 360 Newton meters of torque, allowing him to move his legs quickly and even jump as high as a human. Moreover, its carrying capacity is 30 kilograms.
The creators of the robot showed in a demo video what else H1 is capable of. In one video, he goes up and down the stairs without stumbling; in another, three robots perform a coordinated dance. In one of the videos, H1 even takes a basket from a robot dog and carries it to a table. The humanoid navigates using cameras and Lidar (Light Detection and Ranging) sensors built into its head.
Unitree has not yet announced the official price and launch date for the H1. The developers report that its cost will definitely be less than 90 thousand dollars. For comparison, the price of Boston Dynamic's four-legged Spot robot is $75,000.
