Aragonite is a mineral, one of the natural polymorphs of calcium carbonate (CaCO3), formed when magnesium ions prevent the formation of calcite crystals. Aragonite forms prismatic, columnar, tabular, needle-shaped and lanceolate crystals. Aggregates are radial-radiant, columnar, fibrous, fine-grained.
