Bald eagles attack Alaska residents (3 photos)

In recent weeks, incidents of bald eagles attacking Alaskans have increased. Three people were injured by aggressive birds in Kodiak, located on the island of the same name.





The incidents took place in Saint-German harbor and the victims required stitches.

The reasons for this behavior of the eagles are unknown, and residents are warned to be on guard.

"We advise visitors to the harbor to exercise caution and avoid this area if possible. Workers have already made it a point to cover their heads. I don't know what upset the birds so much, but I hope they calm down soon," said David Johnson, the harbormaster.



According to ornithologist Steve Lewis, such a phenomenon is atypical. He advised holding something above your head for protection.

Crab captain and Kodiak resident Bill Prout said he was attacked by a bald eagle on the same docks in August 2022.

“I’ve been working here for 40 years and I never expected that an eagle, a majestic symbol of our freedom, would attack me,” the American admitted.

According to Prout, the attacks are occurring due to a reduction in the bird's food supply and an increase in their population.



Adult bald eagles measure 70-120 cm from head to tail, have a wingspan of 180-230 cm, and weigh between 3 and 6.3 kg.

This bird mates for life, can live up to 30 years in the wild and feeds primarily on fish, but individuals have been known to eat ducks, rodents, snakes and carrion.
