China, 3050: a girl paid in a supermarket with her palm (2 photos + 1 video)
The technology, called Weixin Palm Payment, is currently only available in the southern part of the country - it was developed by inventors from Tencent.
Tourist Marina Guaranha from Brazil bought groceries in a Chinese supermarket and paid only with her palm and a contactless scanner - without cash, a bank card or a phone. The girl explained how this is possible on her TikTok page.
The influencer couldn’t believe her eyes when she continued to pay with her palm at other establishments and machines.
“If you forgot your bank card, mobile phone or wallet at home, then this is not a problem. You just pay for everything with your palm! Isn’t this amazing? China, 3050,” the girl wrote in the description of the short video, which quickly went viral .
This technology, called Weixin Palm Payment, is currently only available in the southern part of the country. It was developed by inventors from Tencent, which created the WeChat instant messaging application.
The essence of Weixin Palm Payment is to use an infrared camera to analyze the biometric data and veins on each person's hand.
Those who wish to take advantage of this innovation must undergo a special registration and scan their hand, after providing the developers with complete information about themselves - name, phone number, passport series, account information in the WeChat Pay application, and the like.
However, cybersecurity experts note that this can be risky, because it is not entirely clear where and how the relevant information about users is stored, how protected it is from attackers and who has access to it.
