In Germany they proposed removing the airbag from the center of the steering wheel (3 photos)
Over the past few years, the car has undergone significant changes. Screens have replaced the speedometer, electric motors have replaced the internal combustion engine, and sensors monitor safety. The only thing that seems to resist innovation is the steering wheel. In the steering wheel of a modern car, the airbag is located in the middle, and the cruise control and multimedia buttons are on the right and left.
Passive vehicle safety company ZF Lifetec has introduced a new version of the steering wheel, in which the airbag is placed on top, rather than in the center, as usual. In the event of an accident, it will shoot out between the rim and the steering wheel axle.
According to the developer, moving the airbag upward does not worsen safety, but on the contrary opens up new opportunities for improving the steering wheel. According to the manufacturer's idea, it will be possible to install touch buttons or even a screen in the center of the steering wheel.
