The journey to Buran turned out to be too extreme.





Two French citizens tried to enter the territory of the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, but did not calculate their strength - one of the “extreme enthusiasts” will return home in a coffin.

It is reported that 27-year-old Nicholas Carbon and 25-year-old Angelo Alebetta, when trying to illegally enter a sensitive facility, chose the “classic route” - they got out on the highway and moved across the steppe to the tall buildings of the cosmodrome.



The final point of the French journey was the hangar with the Buran

On the way, one of the extreme tourism lovers became ill due to the heat. At that time, the weather outside was hot - +33 degrees in the shade. In the steppe, of course, there was nowhere to hide. Angelo started bleeding from his nose, and after a while he lost consciousness. His friend ran to the nearest Samara-Chimkent highway, stopped a police car, but due to not knowing the language, he could not explain what happened. The man was taken to Checkpoint 1 of the cosmodrome, where the Russian police already figured out the situation and went in search of the foreign tourist. But when law enforcement officers arrived at the scene, Angelo was already dead.

The police did not find any signs of violent death on the man’s body. According to preliminary data, he died from dehydration. Some media write that the Frenchman’s heart could not stand it.





Let us add that there is a special access regime at Baikonur. But, despite possible problems with law enforcement agencies, tourists from different parts of the world regularly try to get there.

In 2022, near launch pad No. 112, where the second flight copy of the Buran spacecraft is located, Englishman Benjamin Rich and Belarusian Alina Zelupa were caught. In September 2023, three Spanish citizens were detained at the cosmodrome, who also intended to look at the Soviet spacecraft. And in May 2021, Russian street artists not only made their way into the territory of the abandoned assembly and refueling complex of the Baikonur Cosmodrome, but also painted the Buran with graffiti.
