The man who dreamed (7 photos)
If you try hard enough, you can convince almost anyone of anything. What if there are a lot of such people, and you don’t even have to convince them?
The capabilities of the psyche are so amazing that humanity probably still has a lot of work to do on their mysteries.
The story began in January 2006, when a famous psychiatrist from New York decided to sketch the face of a man who periodically appeared in her dreams and gave advice. The sketch lay forgotten for some time until one of the doctor’s patients saw it on the table. And she recognized this man who appeared in her dreams too. Both the psychiatrist and the patient had never seen the man in real life.
The psychiatrist found this very interesting, and she passed the identikit on to her colleagues to see if any of their patients would react to the image in the same way. Over the course of several months, four patients identified a stranger who periodically visited them in their dreams. What’s strange is that all the patients called him “that man.” Then others appeared.
It is noteworthy that there is no common connection between the thousands of people who claim to have seen this man in their dreams. The dreams cover a variety of topics - from friendly advice, romantic encounters to nightmares of terrible attacks:
I've been having a recurring dream for several years now. A tall man shows me a photograph and asks if I recognize my father in it. I have never seen the man in the photograph before, he doesn’t look anything like my father. However, I inexplicably reply that I will find out. At this point I usually wake up feeling very calm. In other cases, the dream continues, I stand in front of my father’s grave, put flowers on the ground and realize that there is no photograph on the tombstone.
I dreamed about this man when I was in 10th grade. It was not repeated in any dream, only in one, very memorable and scary. In the dream, I was sitting in the room on a stool. There was a TV a few meters away from me. I was "visited" by two men I had never seen before (not "that person") and they both attacked me. I woke up covered in sweat and tears and screaming. I somehow fell asleep and then found myself back in the room. I started screaming and crying. Then this man appeared on the screen. I begged him not to hurt me. He didn't change his blank expression or speak. He cut my throat and I woke up. He probably let me out of the nightmare, but I couldn’t stop thinking about him for weeks. I still have a few sketches that I drew. I know it's a little weird.
There are many theories as to why so many people dream about this person. Some of them are caused by the collective unconscious and the appearance of “that person” in difficult times. Others associate the image with spiritual experience and even the theory that it is not a person, but God appearing in physical form.
Although thousands of people "claim" to have seen this man in their dreams, there is speculation that this is an elaborate hoax created by the webmaster of www.thisman.org. It turned out to be Italian sociologist and marketer Andrea Natella. Natella is also the head of the advertising agency Guerilla Marketing, which has been involved in various marketing projects, ranging from art, politics to pornography.
A few years ago, Ghost House Pictures announced that American director Brian Bertino would make a film about this phenomenon, also called "The Man."
The film was never made. The mysterious Andrea has disappeared from the radar. The site still exists today. There were no exact answers to the questions. But more and more cases of meeting this character in a dream are recorded.
Have you ever dreamed of this person or someone similar to him?
