The Kingdom of Ghosts – the modest village of Plakli and its unusual inhabitants (14 photos)

3 May 2024

This place has such a ghostly atmosphere that it managed to get into the Guinness Book of Records as the most haunted place.

It’s interesting how the experts conducted the check, but they came to the conclusion that at least a dozen restless souls were hanging around the area. And he manages not only to maintain good neighborly relations with the living, but also to bring them benefits in the form of income from the tourism business.

Ghosts of Plakli Village

The reputation of the village of Pluckley in Kent has attracted film crews from various paranormal TV programs as well as paranormal investigators for several years.

Its ghostly inhabitants include the following:

Screaming man. One of Pluckly's most popular ghosts is the Screaming Man. It is believed that he was working as a construction worker and unfortunately fell to his death.

Man on the road. They say that a sword was thrust into him and he was nailed to a tree for robbery. Now he appears to locals and guests in the form of a shadow.

Old woman. The phantom of an elderly woman can also be seen here. It is believed that she accidentally set herself on fire in her sleep.

School teacher. There is also a story about a school teacher who was found hanged in his room by children. He committed suicide in the 1800s and today can be seen walking around in his favorite old coat and striped trousers.

Red Lady. Finally, there is the Red Lady, who is rumored to be a member of the ancient Dering family.

Pub "Black Horse". The Black Horse Pub is an old and cozy atmospheric pub that is over 300 years old. Situated in the country's most haunted village, it comes as no surprise when people say it's haunted. Glasses on tables have been known to move and cutlery tossed by invisible hands. The dogs suddenly stop and bark at empty spaces and refuse to go near one particular room upstairs.

The forest and its secrets

Of course, ghosts are very exciting and cool. But the most terrible stories are connected with the forest surrounding Pluckli. With disturbing unexplained deaths, murders and disappearances believed to have occurred here as early as the second half of the 20th century.

On Halloween night in 1948, local residents reported hearing noises and seeing lights from the forest. The next morning, a man walking his dog discovered the bodies of more than 20 people lying in piles of leaves. The dead were identified as residents of the nearby village of Maltmans Hill. There were no visible wounds or signs of struggle on their bodies, and autopsies did not determine the cause of death. As a result, the police considered the death to be caused by carbon monoxide poisoning and, despite active criticism, stopped the investigation.

In the late 1990s, a mysterious incident occurred again in the Dering Forest: four college students went missing while hiking in the forest. Both of these stories apparently originated from popular horror stories shared online.

However, despite the dark and sinister reputation that the forests have, they still attract visitors who come to walk their dogs, enjoy the untouched nature and, of course, hunt ghosts.
