In Nainital district, Uttarakhand, a huge forest fire has been raging for several days; according to preliminary information, the arson was started deliberately. In a related incident, three people were arrested in Rudraprayag on Friday for attempting to set forests on fire. 
Shepherd Naresh Bhatt from Tadiyal village in Jaholi was caught on the spot while starting a fire in the forest. When asked why he did this, Naresh stated that he lit the fire to grow new grass for grazing his sheep.
According to officials, 31 new cases of forest fire were reported across the state on Friday, destroying 33.34 hectares of forest land.
The situation took a serious turn when the flames came very close to the Nainital High Court building and the nearest military base. Only after this did the active phase of fire extinguishing begin.
Along with forest department officials, the military personnel are also trying to control the fire. Authorities deployed helicopters to extinguish it.
Local residents are dissatisfied with the slow response of the fire services and are outraged that they began to actively extinguish the fire only when a threat to the military appeared.
