In Britain, there are a couple of lovers of free dinners in expensive restaurants (5 photos + 1 video)
British restaurateurs have published images of a family who failed to pay their £329 bill and asked for help in identification. Over the past year, crooks have eaten for free at seven establishments across Wales.
Staff at Italian restaurant Bella Ciao in Port Talbot, near Swansea, claim a party of eight ordered expensive steaks, desserts and 15 bottles of alcohol on Friday night and left without paying the bill.
The owners of the Somerset Arms in Port Talbot, The Longbow Beefeater in Pontyclun, Indian restaurant Chilli Too in Clidach, La Casona in Squaen, River House Lounge and Restaurant in Swansea and The Yard in Cowbridge believe they are victims of elusive freeloaders.
The couple arrives in a blue Ford van, orders the most expensive dishes, and then disappears.
In February, employees of the Mediterranean cafe La Casona in Skuen reported a “robbery” to the police. Two months later, photographs of the woman were published.
After seeing the news about Bella Ciao, the manager of La Casona shared a similar story about the couple having dinner with friends on February 23rd. The four left the building after finishing the meal, which cost them nearly £300, leaving the mother with the teenager.
The suspect tried to pay the bill with a card, but the transaction did not go through. The guest told staff that her son would wait at the establishment while she went to get “another card,” but did not return.
"We asked the boy to stay and wait for her in the restaurant. She left, and 10 seconds after that the child ran to the car. We sent CCTV footage, photographs, and even the registration number of the car to the police."
"Two months later we called to find out about our case. There was no news... We believed that contacting the police would help prevent such cases, apparently this did not happen," La Casona added.
The British pulled off a similar trick at River House last year: they had a feast, then went to the ATM for cash and disappeared.
"I pay taxes to support the police, but I am powerless. It irritates me that criminals get away with everything," complained Tyrone Reese, manager of the Bella Ciao restaurant.
