12-year-old Rowan Brannan discovered the rare piece of jewelry while walking his dog in Pagham, UK. The age of the product is 2000 years.
The schoolboy was with his mother Amanda, 44, when he noticed the decoration.
“Rowan is very adventurous and always picks things up,” Amanda admitted. “I always tell him: ‘Put it down, it’s dirty.’ But this time he didn’t listen to me, he was sure that he had found real gold.”
They had no idea that they had a real artifact in their hands until the hairdresser came to their home. The master said that she was fond of searching with a metal detector, and the boy showed her the thing he found.
After looking at the bracelet, the woman advised the Brennans to turn to experts.
Employees of the British Museum established that the jewelry is a Roman bracelet of the “armilla” type, it was made in the 1st century AD.
“This bracelet was given to Roman soldiers as a reward for valiant service,” Amanda explained. “We found only part of the product.”
Rowan learned that he had made an "exceptionally rare find."
"It was so exciting and we learned a lot. We love being part of the process of learning about the bracelet and following its story," Amanda said.
