How many kilograms of money in Venezuela do you need to bring to a car dealership to buy a new car (6 photos)

A funny country is Venezuela. And there's funny money in it. Which the local population does not like, does not respect, and prefers not to use them. Using American dollars for any payment, from the smallest one for a bottle of water to buying a car.

Venezuelan bolivars are so actively printed and there are already so many of them in the country that in recent years many entrepreneurs have refused to accept them as payment as the national currency.

But today you will sell a bottle of rum for 20 million bolivars, and tomorrow for this money you can only buy a bottle of water: inflation is so strong in the country.

The government is constantly carrying out “monetary reform” and removing the zeros, but it also continues to furiously print money to cover budget expenses. And the zeros return back at cosmic speed.

For example, in 2018, the country carried out a large denomination and immediately removed 5 zeros, returning the long-forgotten 1, 2, 5 and 20 bolivars to circulation. So to speak, from scratch.

But only three years passed, and in March 2021, the Russian Goznak (which prints money for Venezuela) shipped Caracas a batch of brand new banknotes of 200,000, 500,000 and, for the first time in the country’s history, 1 million bolivar bills.

And while the new banknotes were transported by plane, distributed to banking institutions and put into circulation, inflation managed to eat them up, and the government began developing denominations of several million per banknote.

This man has in his hands a whopping 3.5 million bolivars. It seems like a lot, the man is a millionaire. But this money is only enough for him to buy a small pack of chips, because he only holds 1 American dollar!

That is, a Venezuelan 1 million bolivar note is less than $0.32!

If we talk about the most popular banknotes in the country, then these are 50 thousand and 100 thousand bolivars. Which is equal to approximately $0.016 and $0.032.

So if you use local money, then for any purchase, even to the grocery store, you need to go with a backpack or a bag of money.

Because of such crazy inflation, literally eating up money in Venezuela, a local photographer even made a special project, showing how much money you need to pay for the most ordinary products: chicken, a pack of rice, a kilogram of carrots, a package of flour.

The result was impressive packs...

Now imagine that you need to buy... a car!

I specifically calculated how many kilograms of money the buyer would have to bring to the car dealership if he decided to make a purchase in cash and in national currency.

For example, the Mitsubishi Pajero SUV, which is very popular in Caracas (only it is called Montero, because Pajero is a very indecent word in Spanish) costs 55 thousand dollars.

This is 192.5 billion bolivars or 192,500 1 million bills. So many banknotes could cover a third of a football field!

One bill weighs just under 1 g. As a result, the total weight of the bills will be 192.5 kilograms! And it is simply impossible for one person to bring that amount of money in a backpack, bag or even suitcases on wheels.

So you will have to hire a pickup truck or minibus to bring 8 large checkered market bags or 16 boxes of photocopier paper. After all, you will have 1925 wads of money with you.

If it is not possible to collect the entire amount in millions, and the bills are smaller, then you will have to literally hire a truck to transport the money to the car dealership...
