Students organized a fundraiser for their dormitory security guard (6 photos + 1 video)
This touching story from Rhode Island (USA) strengthens faith in people! A group of Providence College students staged a surprise for their dorm security guard, James Mogaji. The guys learned that James had not been to his homeland and had not seen his family for ten years. And they decided to help him.
Security guard James, known to students as Unk, is one of the friendliest and nicest people in the world. The guys say that he greets everyone with a smile and is always happy to chat, no matter what time of day you meet him.
Having learned that this man had not been to his homeland, Nigeria, and had not seen his son for 11 years, the students decided to raise money for him to travel home. The students organized a fundraiser on GoFundMe.
Providence College was founded in 1917 by the Dominican Order and the local diocese
“James is without a doubt the best guard at Providence College. He works four night shifts a week and is on the 4th floor of Raymond Hall, a post on a GoFundMe page created by Brandon Reichert on Feb. 29 read. “He said how much he enjoyed his job at the college and we wanted to give him the opportunity to visit his family.”
Students raised money to give the security guard a trip to his family in Nigeria
“He doesn't know how much we appreciate him and we hope this shows him how much he means to our community. We hope others will join us in raising funds for James, because Raymond Hall and Providence College would not be the same without him. "He hasn't seen his family for many years and we feel he more than deserves to see his loved ones."
The call was heard. In just one day, the guys raised $3,000 using GoFundMe. Later, a photo appeared on the fundraising page showing them handing money to James.
“Tonight we were able to give James enough money so he can go to Nigeria to visit his family in June! — Brandon wrote. “I would like to thank everyone who donated money, because you can see what a great job you have done.” Any further donations will be given to James at the end of the school year in May to fund another trip.”
James was moved to tears
In a video posted on TikTok, he looks completely shocked.
A student who identified himself as Daniel Singh also fought back tears as he delivered his speech:
“You recently told us that you wanted to see your family in Nigeria, whom you haven’t seen for a long time, so we joined forces. We take care of our loved ones. This is what we do at Providence College,” he continued, before another student handed a guard a gift in an envelope and said, “We love you. You are part of our family."
Kindness will save the world.
