The very first smart watch. Do you know how many pages were in the instructions for them? (5 photos)
21 years ago, in 1983, a Seiko brand watch, model T001, went on sale. The clock was amazing for those times - with radio and TV!
At the top there was a panel with time indicators, where you could also tune in to a specific FM wave. At the bottom, as can be seen in the photo, there was a television screen.
And everything would be fine if it weren’t difficult to use and cumbersome. Included with the clock was a decent-sized box - a TV-radio receiver, which sent out signals. No bluetooth existed yet, so the watch was connected to this unit using a wire. You put the box in your pocket (preferably closer to your hand - so it’s better in a shirt or jacket pocket), the sound went to the headphones, which were also connected to the watch via a wire.
To help the user understand how it all works, detailed instructions have been issued. It was already 48 pages!
And all this trouble in order to watch TV with a 1.2-inch screen! But whatever one may say, this watch was a real breakthrough and achievement.
