Unfinished solar energy capacitor in the mountains of the Aragats Science Center (42 photos)
In the mountains of Armenia there is the world's first unique giant reflecting radio-optical telescope with a mirror diameter of 54 meters, built according to the design of the famous radiophysicist Paris Geruni.
And in this article I will show the site of the unfinished solar energy capacitor AREV, named after the solar character from Armenian mythology.
In addition to the ROT-54/2.6 telescope itself and its control building, other scientific facilities and laboratories were built on the territory of the scientific center, one of which was the construction of the AREV solar energy condenser, which was never completed due to the collapse of the Soviet Union and the cessation of funding project.
Now its unfinished remains stand as a silent, rusty monument to a bygone era, away from the main sites of the Aragats Science Center, which operated from 1987 to 2012. on the mountain of the same name.
It was located near a cliff into a small canyon.
We have already told the history of the creation of this scientific center in the very first article, so we will not repeat ourselves, but will immediately go to our goal.
On the approach are the remains of some kind of kung.
Various unfinished communications protrude from the ground.
Apparently the remains of a concrete plant that was used in the construction of a technical building.
On the approach to the object there is another old looted kung with an antenna.
Let's examine the object from the outside.
Construction was stopped during the installation of the mirror panels, when the main metal frame was already ready.
One of the mirror panels reflects the ground.
Unfortunately, we understand absolutely nothing about this topic, so we cannot tell you anything sane and interesting about this site, so the story about it is in the style of “What I see is what I sing.” :)
Let's come closer.
In the seemingly chaotic interweaving of metal structures, the mirror bowl of the condenser antenna is still recognizable.
Trees have been growing inside for a long time.

A tall tower rises in the center.
At its top, at the AREV focus, it was planned to build a turbine converter.
Well, now let's take a look at the technical building.
In which they did not have time to install almost anything.
Here you can also find segments of the antenna mirror panels.
And there's this drinking fountain in the restroom.
Unfortunately, there is absolutely nothing more to see inside.
View from the window of the unfinished antenna.
And this is what the main entrance to its technical building looks like.
The outer part of the mirror structures also had to be sheathed and painted to match the color of the sky.
That's actually all that was built here.
In the next final part we will show the production workshop located on the territory, where mirror panels were produced for the main 54-meter antenna of this scientific complex.
Well, that's all.
