Owners have been paying money to a non-existent HOA for 25 years (4 photos + 1 video)
Residents of one area in the United States uncovered a deception: it turns out that an elderly couple had been deceiving local residents for 25 years, charging them money under the guise of a non-existent HOA. Yes, such stories happen in our lives!
This story was shared by a resident of the American state of Georgia named Alison (and under the nickname NotAlisonThanks). First, she said that not long ago she received a letter supposedly from a local HOA.
"The letter was from Claire and Mike. Claire was the chairman of the HOA for the last 25 years, and Mike was the finance manager. They decided to step down and asked which neighbor wanted to become the new chairman. Claire wrote that she was 96 years old and no longer can do this. I immediately called my husband - he would make an excellent HOA president, honestly. But he said that we don’t have any HOA,” the girl said.
The husband told her that he had never paid HOA dues since they moved to the area. The girl went further and talked to all the neighbors. It turned out that everyone was furious because the HOA had not existed for 25 years, the same old Claire had been simply taking money from local residents all these years. Then they teamed up, created a chat on social networks, and want to bring the old woman to clean water.
"She's never done anything for our neighborhood other than paint one sign green. And it's not worth the $60 each resident has paid for 25 years," Alison said.
With the help of lawyers, residents found out that this HOA, which is mentioned in the letter, has not existed since 2009. When it ceased to exist, Claire and her husband simply continued to take money from people as if nothing had happened. Now residents of the area, of whom there were already about 1,000 in the chat, planned to hold a meeting right near the “chairwoman’s” house and discuss where their money had been going all this time.
