Even very little girls are proud of their beautiful curls. But there are times when dense vegetation adorns not only the head.

The werewolf girl Alice Elizabeth Doherty is the only documented case of a child born in the United States with lanuginous hypertrichosis. The condition is extremely rare and unusual. Born with a shock of fine, silky blonde hair, she became an American werewolf.

Alice was born on March 14, 1887 in Minneapolis from ordinary parents. Alice's hairiness was not typical for the family. Her siblings were born without a fur coat, and her parents could not explain why their baby suffered from this condition. Her father Aloysius was saddened by his daughter’s condition, but soon realized that the child’s peculiarity could be used to earn money. The public will happily pay good money for the opportunity to see such a miracle.

Alice Doherty began her career at the age of two at the local level. Demand grew quickly and resulted in extensive touring throughout the Midwest. By all accounts, Alice was a bright and playful child. She was interesting in soul, as well as in appearance. One fan, a writer from Wisconsin, wrote that the baby was "as playful as a kitten," while another from Michigan declared her "the most wonderful baby ever born." By the age of five, the length of facial hair exceeded 15 centimeters, and by adolescence it reached 27 centimeters.

Alice has always been an independent artist, exhibited for a long time in the so-called showcase.

It was common practice for managers to rent commercial space in a busy city center, stage an exhibition and sell tickets to the public, and then move to another city. Many famous unique people earned their living this way. And the Doherty family managed to earn a comfortable life thanks to their unique daughter.

Although hypertrichosis is extremely rare, there were quite a few hairy ones when Alice toured in the late 1800s. Lionel the Lion-Faced Boy (Stefan Bibrowski) and Jo-Jo the Dog-Faced Boy (Fyodor Evtikhiev) proved to be much more successful in both fame and fortune compared to Alice Doherty. This is probably due to the fact that they had legendary promoters behind them, as well as a certain exotic appeal. Alice, on the other hand, was a quiet girl who was guided by her family members.

Alice was born with a unique appearance, but inside she was an ordinary girl next door. She was not an artist by vocation, and her heart did not strive to become one. In 1915, Alice retired to Dallas, and it was there that she died peacefully on June 13, 1933, at the age of 46.
