A mosquito tornado rages in Buenos Aires (2 photos + 3 videos)
Thousands of mosquitoes gather in giant swarms and spread dangerous infections throughout Argentina.
The streets and public transport were empty. There are so many mosquitoes that they accumulate like a veil on the walls of residential buildings and shopping centers. Local residents can only share on social networks photos and videos of the mosquito “clouds” that have captured Buenos Aires over the past few days.
This Friday it was decided to close one of the metro stations in Buenos Aires. A cloud of giant mosquitoes began to form at the Piedras station.
As scientists explain, after heavy rains in the region, an extremely favorable situation develops for the active reproduction of dangerous mosquitoes.
“The number of mosquitoes will gradually decrease over 10 days to a week, but if it rains again, the mosquitoes will again infest everything.”
Let us remind you that in this region mosquitoes are carriers of dengue fever.
Symptoms include fever, temperature above 38°C, pain behind the eyes, headache and muscle and/or joint pain, nausea and vomiting, fatigue, skin spots and itching, bleeding from mucous membranes, especially the nose and gums.
In the first month of 2024, 10 thousand became ill. And for the entire previous year 2023 - more than 27 thousand.
Due to the massive spread of mosquitoes, disinfection, which is usually carried out monthly, now occurs once a week in large parks. In total, more than 3.5 thousand park treatment operations have been carried out since December last year. But this doesn’t really help the situation.
