A large-scale rock collapse occurred at a gold mine in Turkey
According to Turkish media, there may be people under the rubble.
A giant clay mountainside collapsed at a gold mine in Erzincan province in eastern Turkey at 2:28 pm today. The footage published by the Turkish television channel TV-100 shows the frightening scale of the collapse, after which the rock rushes hundreds of meters down the gorge. There is no information about possible casualties yet, but according to unconfirmed information, at least seven people could be under the rubble.
“There may be people underground, their number is still unknown. Rescue units have been sent to the mine area,” said the governor of Erzincan province, Hamza Aydogdu.
The Anagold company confirmed the emergency and reported that employees of the internal emergency service were searching for victims along with rescuers.
It is noted that the mine, located in Ulich county, began operation in 2010. At the same time, Anagold was fined in 2022 for gold mining using cyanide.
